The
following five works are an exploration of scale. Each
work has been preceded by an investigative study. Here, he
has brought together examples from various series of works—Figure
in the Landscape, Tracking Down the Strongman, Future
Totems–(for further information, refer Tom Mutch
Antipodean Artist published by David Bateman Ltd)—threaded
together by Superbird, a champion for Nature. "Superbird
strides the earth walking like a human campaigning for
creatures and aspects of Nature that humans have
forgotten. He can expand to an enormous size and he can
miniaturise so small he can slip into your culture and
your consciousness.....and the rest is up to you."
When
viewing this latest group of works, you go beyond seeing;
you feel the clarity of Tom’s colours, his precise clean
lines, and the symbolic and allegorical message of his
works.
